False 8 Ball Mastery Workout

This highly anticipated guide is set to be a game-changer for at-home technical development. This workout consists of approximately 40 elite-level ball mastery exercises, carefully designed to challenge and elevate your technical ability. In this session, Coach Christian—Director and Founder of False 8 Academy—takes you through an intense 60-minute workout inspired by the very drills he used during his own youth development, as well as those from the professional clubs he played for.

Coach Christian is a former member of the FC Groningen Youth Academy, a historic Dutch club known for producing world-class players such as Virgil van Dijk, Arjen Robben, Luis Suárez, and Hans Hateboer. He also spent time at the Olympique Lyonnais Academy and went on to enjoy a 7-year professional playing career.

This ball mastery circuit was created with you in mind, with the goal of developing elite comfort on the ball, touch efficiency, body feints, and deceptive movement patterns—key components for maximizing 1v1 ability and overall technical confidence.

Ball mastery is essential. Players who consistently emphasize ball mastery during the critical U9–U15 phase of development set themselves up for long-term success. If you ask top youth prospects why they excel at the U17–U21 level, they’ll all point to one thing: the time they spent on the ball.

At False 8, we believe players should aim for a minimum of 1,000 touches per day. Let’s get to work.

What to Expect in the Ball Mastery Video Workout Guide

This high-intensity ball mastery workout features fast-tempo music and passionate, command-style coaching from Coach Christian. Players will need to stay highly alert and be prepared to transition quickly from drill to drill.

We recommend this workout circuit for players who already possess a solid technical foundation. The exercises progress from simple to complex, so it’s important that players are comfortable with fundamental ball control techniques. This course is not recommended for beginners.

We recommend committing to this program for a period of six months, training 2 to 4 times per week consistently. Each session lasts approximately one hour and can be completed before or after school or split into two 30-minute segments throughout the day or week to fit your schedule.

Please note that this workout is physically demanding. We encourage players to take breaks as needed and ask that parents or guardians monitor younger participants throughout the session.

In Depth Recommendation:
We recommend completing this circuit 3–4 times per week, ideally every day, for a period of 6 months to 1 year. It's important to understand that a player is only as good as they are on the ball. This routine can be done before school, on a day off, or after training sessions.

This 1-hour workout is specifically designed to improve movement patterns, fluidity, and dexterity. It focuses on enhancing touch efficiency, as well as developing feints and deceptive movements. The goal is to overload players with purposeful touches and sharp, technical actions that will directly translate to 1v1 situations and dribbling performance. This is essential for players aiming to meet or exceed the highest technical standards seen worldwide.

At False 8, our players are currently doing ball mastery workouts 2–4 times per week, either before school or after a training session. Many of them follow this up with club practices or additional False 8 sessions.

Daily technical work is vital. The target is for players to get between 2,000 to 3,000 ball touches per day.
